What is TAG?

TAG is an acronym for the Trenholm Artists Guild.  Established in 1971, Trenholm Artists Guild  is an incorporated, non-profit organization located in Columbia, South Carolina.  It is designated a 501 (c) (3) organization by the IRS so donations to TAG are tax deductible.

TAG was created to encourage and stimulate the practice and appreciation of the creative arts among the people living in the greater Columbia area of South Carolina. To achieve this goal TAG works cooperatively with other groups to help build audiences and participation in the arts.

Co-sponsored by the Richland County Recreation Commission since its inception, TAG meetings are held at Forest Lake Park.  When the the RCRC Board resolved on May 17th, 2004 to make sweeping changes in its Public Use Policies, TAG was grandfathered in as an organization qualified for the waiving of charges for the use of meeting rooms in Forest Lake Park.

TAG has a membership of about 150. The group includes both amateur and professional artists who work in watercolor, oil, acrylic, pastel, drawing, sculpture, photography and other creative media. Many TAG members work full-time in the field of art as art teachers, graphic artists or professional artists. Other TAG members create for the enjoyment it brings and still others are members because they simply enjoy the programs offered through the guild. TAG's brings together adults living in the Columbia, S.C. area with a common interest – ART!

How and when did this website originate?

At its regularly scheduled April 14, 2004, meeting, the TAG board approved the establishment of a website to promote TAG and the creative arts of the membership to the Greater Columbia community and beyond.  The site includes information about the purpose and programs of TAG as well as the schedule of meetings and events, membership information with an application, ongoing exhibit locations, and officer contact information.  An online gallery of original works by TAG artists is also included.    Artists' links are added and updated on a regular basis.  Check back often to see what's new on our site.

How can members participate in the website?

If you are a member of TAG and are interested in establishing a link between TAG and your personal website or if you are interested in learning more about establishing a small gallery of your artwork on the TAG website, click here for information.
