Tuula Ihamaki-Widdifield

Most of my pieces are vessel forms which I decorate with underglazes.  I use scraffito technique to reveal the color of the clay underneath.  All my designs and carvings are done freehand, no patterns or stencils are used.  I try to work quickly while drawing the design on the piece and therefore transferring the spontaneity into every piece. On the bowls and platters the design is also on the underside of the rim.

Clay and nature have been my inspiration for several years and I hope that people will sense the joy I feel while working with clay in all my pieces.  With my pottery the goal is simply to create functional art to bring beauty to our everyday lives.
