Gerald N. Olsen

I was born in 1941 in Michigan and emigrated courtesy of my parents to Jackson Mississippi at the age of 6 months.  I was raised in Jackson and attended the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in Oxford MS.  I then attended the University of Mississippi, School of Medicine in Jackson graduating in 1967.  I did my residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine/Pulmonary Medicine at the University of Florida in Gainesville.  I was in the Navy for two years.  I was on the faculty of the University of Florida for one year before entering hospital-based practice in Jacksonville Florida for 8 years.  I then moved to Columbia where I joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina, School of Medicine where I taught for 22 years retiring in 2003.  I originally painted during my senior year in med school then my medical career became paramount.  I restarted painting in 2000 in preparation for retirement.  I’ve been assisted by excellent teaching from Campbell Frost, Barbara Timberman and Kay Braswell.  I oscillate between living at Beech Mountain, NC and Columbia, SC. I paint mostly in oils and acrylics and seem to be addicted to painting still lifes and landscapes containing water, either placid or rushing.   I can most reliably be reached via E-mail:  gnolsen@earthlink.net.  or by phone 803-736-2587
