Art has been part of Misty Turbeville's life for as long as
she can remember. From childhood doodles and drawings to after school art
classes, Misty has been expressing herself in art for years. It is one of her
many passions but the one in which she considers "her sweet release".
Growing up in the arts rich Mississippi Gulf Coast, Misty was surrounded by art
in her hometown of Ocean Springs, especially the art of Walter Anderson, a
famous local artist in her area. His murals were on the buildings, banners
celebrating his art beckoned from downtown light posts, and frequent trips to
his museum were influencing and guiding to her. She liked his block prints and
using that as inspiration, she developed a freehand style modeled on them. Her
interesting and inspiring free hand graphic prints are the beautiful result.
Misty moved to South Carolina in 1998 to attend Newberry College and ultimately
received a Masters of Arts in Religious Studies from Lutheran Theological
Southern Seminary in 2004. She works for a non-profit organization in Columbia,
South Carolina, but most of her free time is devoted to her passion of drawing.
