Snapshots from our

October 10, 2005 meeting.

Guest Presenter - Mary Erickson

Mary Erickson provided an entertaining and informative presentation.  She shared tips and techniques and was well received by our oil painting audience.  She  paints "lean" and uses vegetable oil to clean her brushes.  She never uses turpentine or other harsh cleaners because the smell gives her headaches.  She paints from the tubes.  She does small paintings as her "study" in a couple of hours painting en plein air and then uses those as her reference to paint larger paintings in her studio.  She never uses photographs and only sketches to get the "stances" of birds which she loves to paint.  She brought about a dozen examples of her work, small and large.  She also brought her favorite travel boxes and easels and had some interesting short stories of "adventures" while painting.
