Guest Presenter - Karen Galleher
Karen A. Galleher painted in oils as a hobby for over twenty years with a “childhood-drawing-for-fun” and a “high-school-art-class” background. Her under-graduate education was in business administration with a minor in English. Galleher worked as an administrative assistant for a trade association and for a systems analysis company. She served as a staff assistant for the U.S. House of Representatives before becoming a homemaker and mother of three. While her children were young, she studied interior design and painted occasionally for family and friends.
In 1990, Galleher realized she wanted to be a professional painter. She painted for forty hours a week for three years before marketing any work. During this time, she participated in workshops and took classes taught by nationally renowned artists. She developed her own painting signature of stylized impressionism in portraiture, landscapes, and fantasy. She continues to build a resume of achievements and has had several one-woman shows. Her work is featured in a number of galleries. Her paintings and prints are in prestigious art collections in the United States, Europe, and Asia. She is on the Registrar of the National Museum of Women and the Corcoran Gallery of Art, both located in Washington, D.C.
Galleher teaches oil painting and offers workshops to other aspiring artists. Most people do not develop their innate ability to draw and explore color. She has her own definition of “gifted and talented.” She strongly believes the gift is the energy and desire, and that talent blooms in proportion to the amount of time spent on creative development.
Her desire is to use brush and canvas to create work that communicates a timeless mood and uplifting response. She strives to connect the observer to individual memories that warm a heart, touch a soul, and cause a smile.
